The Alberta Avenue Community League held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. There were 18 members in attendance.

After a quick review of the 2011 Annual Report and Financial Statements, the election was held. Karen Mykietka returned as President and Brendan van Alstine as Secretary. Cora Shaw moved to Vice-President and one new director joined the board Garett Spelliscy who lives across the street as Arts Hab. There is still one director position open. On July 28, the city ordered the current bottle depot on the corner of 111 Avenue and 93 Street closed because the building is unsafe. The owners of the bottle depot wish to demolish the current building and construct a new expanded facility on the same site. They have acquired the adjacent two properties for this purpose and are making an application to rezone the parcel of land from CNC to DC2 as the current zoning does not allow for bottle depots.

The owners and their architect wish to work with the community to design a facility that will be attractive and safe. They will present their initial concept drawings to the community at a meeting on TBA (check website or email) at the community centre. Come share your thoughts and ideas.

Eastwoodfest needs YOU!

Eastwoodfest is a free festival featuring a pancake breakfast, music, art, performances, and lots of other fun stuff for the community.

It takes place Saturday August 13 from 10 am to 6 pm, and we need volunteers throughout the day to make it come together.

We are currently seeking people to help set up the site before the event and take it down at the end of the day. If you are a stage manager (or interested in learning the ropes!), there will be two stages that need a friendly, organized person who will keep the action running on schedule. In addition to those particular positions, we also need a few people in between set-up and take-down to do little odd jobs such as ensuring that the volunteer hospitality area is always replenished and to check in on various areas on site.

Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, water and food during the festival, membership to the Eastwood Community League, and our everlasting gratitude! Meet your neighbours, have a bit of fun and be involved in your community!

Please contact mari@eastwoodcommunityleague.com with your name, hours available, and any special skills you might be able to contribute.
