      Bottle Depot Redevelopment 08/14/2011
      2 Comments

On July 28, the city ordered the current bottle depot on the corner of 111 Avenue and 93 Street closed because the building is unsafe. The owners of the bottle depot wish to demolish the current building and construct a new expanded facility on the same site. They have acquired the adjacent two properties for this purpose and are making an application to rezone the parcel of land from CNC to DC2 as the current zoning does not allow for bottle depots.

The owners and their architect wish to work with the community to design a facility that will be attractive and safe. They will present their initial concept drawings to the community at a meeting on TBA (check website or email) at the community centre. Come share your thoughts and ideas.

Volunteer at Eastwoodfest Aug 13 07/30/2011

      Eastwoodfest needs YOU!

Eastwoodfest is a free festival featuring a pancake breakfast, music, art, performances, and lots of other fun stuff for the community.

It takes place Saturday August 13 from 10 am to 6 pm, and we need volunteers throughout the day to make it come together.

We are currently seeking people to help set up the site before the event and take it down at the end of the day. If you are a stage manager (or interested in learning the ropes!), there will be two stages that need a friendly, organized person who will keep the action running on schedule. In addition to those particular positions, we also need a few people in between set-up and take-down to do little odd jobs such as ensuring that the volunteer hospitality area is always replenished and to check in on various areas on site.

Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, water and food during the festival, membership to the Eastwood Community League, and our everlasting gratitude! Meet your neighbours, have a bit of fun and be involved in your community!

Please contact mari@eastwoodcommunityleague.com with your name, hours available, and any special skills you might be able to contribute.

      Talk about mature neighbourhoods 06/30/2011
      0 Comments

EFCL invites you and your neighbours to:

the Sustaining Mature Neighbourhoods Follow-up Conversation,

Wednesday, 7 pm, July 13th at McKernan Community Hall, 11341 78 Avenue (close to the McKernan LRT Station).

In May, community people came together with the multi-level government and citizen Task Force on Community Sustainability to talk about ways to keep our mature neighbourhoods sustainable and vibrant, with schools, local stores, family housing, and safe streets.  The second conversation on July 13th will ‘flesh out’ the recommendations, explore new ideas, and set priorities.

Be there to make sure your ideas are heard!

Please RSVP to Bev.Zubot@efcl.org, or 780-437-2913.

Registrants will be sent information on the draft ideas collected by the Community Sustainability Task Force to date.   You can see if you want to build on some of these ideas, in addition to the ideas generated at the spring community league workshop and meetings.

For information on the community league input, see the May Workshop Notes (click here) and an EFCL article summarizing the input from several meetings (click here) .
