SPARK! YOUTH CAMP

WHAT IS SPARK?!

CAMPDo you like to create?
Do you want to learn more about performing, building, or expressing yourself through art?
Do you want to spend two weeks of your summer making new friends and having a completely unique experience that will make an impact?

Then Spark! is for you!

Spark! is a two week day-camp that unleashes your creative potential through the arts! It is a collective creation camp where we create an original play altogether!

Here’s how it works!
You register for a specific subject: Performance or Technical Theatre/Design. For two weeks we delve deep into that discipline, exploring, learning, and creating, all while having a ton of fun. By the end of the two weeks, we will present a totally unique performance for our families, friends, and community members, created entirely by you!

Want to do it all? No worries! All Spark! Camp members will have the opportunity to partake in special workshops exploring other arts disciplines including improvisation, puppetry, filmmaking, creative writing, painting, and more!

PERFORMANCE

Express yourself through performance! Through fun-filled games and exercises, theatre performance students will become more connected to their bodies, learn the techniques of performance, and explore how to translate play into storytelling and theatre.

Performance students will create an original play! Students will learn the fundamentals of collective creation and story creation. We will create a concept, characters, and a setting, and then write, rehearse, and perform our very own collective creation production! Learn the skills it takes to create theatre!

Instructor:

Lianna Makuch is a professional actor, producer and teacher. Lianna has taught with the City Arts Centre, the Expanse Festival outreach program, Theatre Prospero throughout Alberta, collective creation on Pender Island, BC, and as an assistant instructor at the Foote Theatre School. She is a graduate of the esteemed BFA Acting program from the University of Alberta.

TECHNICAL THEATRE/DESIGN

Build, light, and create with technical theatre! Technical Theatre and Design students will design and create the world in which the play, written by the performance students, will take place. They will learn about construction, set design, costumes, lighting, sound, and the logistics and technicalities of putting on a performance.

They will use these skills to transform the community hall into a fully functional theatre space, complete with professional theatre lighting and sound equipment! Create the world of the play!

Instructor:

Chris Dela Cruz is a professional theatre technician. As an instructor, Chris has taught technical theatre to students all over Alberta with Theatre Prospero. Chris is also involved in several community festivals and events in the 118 Avenue area, including the Kaleido Festival, Yule Ave Festival, SkirtsAfire festival, and Drive-In Movies.

Spark! is for all youth ages 8-14 and takes place at The Alberta Avenue Community Centre on 118th Avenue and facilitated by some of Edmonton’s most exciting artists in all fields of the arts!

CAMP COST
For the two weeks, Spark! is only $400.
(Please note that the true value/cost of this camp is $800)

Spark! believes in arts education and making learning accessible! Therefore, we are able to offer some partial and complete sponsorships for the camp.
